Vatican UN Envoy Stresses Importance of Religious Freedom
NEW YORK (CWNews.com) -- Archbishop Renato Martino reminded the United Nations of the importance of religious freedom, as the international body discussed basic human rights. "The Holy See is particularly concerned by the fact that in many parts of the world, discriminatory or intolerant laws are applied, particularly against minority groups in states that have an official religion," the Vatican envoy said. He argued that "the right to life, the right to freedom of religion or belief, and respect for religions and cultural heritage are basic needs of human life."
