Board of Governors Meeting - 06.09.2009

Summary:


Chairman Richard Stone opened the June 9, 2009 NCSJ Spring  Board of Governors meeting in Washington, D.C., welcoming the Board members, ambassadors and embassy representatives and other guests.

Keynote speaker Daniel Russell, Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary for Political Affairs, U.S. Department of State, discussed the U.S.-Russia bilateral relationship. Mr. Russell is formerly the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.


Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Dr. Oleh Shamshur discussed U.S.-Ukraine relations and trade issues.

Marjorie Margolis, cousin of Jewish partisan Rachel Margolis, provided an update on the World War II Lithuanian Jewish partisan controversy.


Chief Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt discussed Russia and the state of Moscow's Jewish community.

Karyn Gershon, Executive Director of Project Kesher described her organization's work in Russia and throughout the former Soviet Union.


Executive Committee member Susan Green discussed the recent May NCSJ mission to Moscow, Kyiv and Riga.

Lesley Weiss, Director of Community Services and Cultural Affairs, talked about the March 2009 NCSJ/Stanford University Student Advocacy Program in Moscow (see also: full report).
